LAURA
LINEBACK
Laura Lineback is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist with an MFA from Syracuse University. She uses humor, observation, and an evolving creative practice to question cultural norms and explore themes such as feminism, the body, mortality, and power.
Originally trained in painting, Laura’s work has expanded over time to include a wide range of forms, guided less by medium and more by concept. Her practice is project-based and often rooted in research, but it always leaves space for instinct, improvisation, and play.
Whether creating a public sculpture, writing a song, or building a set, she brings the same critical curiosity and creative problem-solving to every project she takes on.
“Jack of all trades, master of none?”
The phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none” is often misunderstood. The original version, “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one,” was meant as praise, not criticism.
For Laura, working across disciplines is not about lack of focus, but about building a layered and adaptable creative practice. Each area of exploration, whether visual, performative or narrative, informs the others. Skills gained in one form sharpen insight in another, and connections across mediums open up unexpected possibilities.
Rather than staying in a single lane, Laura’s work is guided by concept and curiosity. The ability to move fluidly between modes of making isn’t a detour, it’s the point.
